We’re glad you asked. To signup to be a tutor or a student, fill out the google form linked under the Join Now tab. To be a tutor, you must be a current or incoming highschooler with a 90% in the classes you wish to tutor. Once you are successfully registered as a student/tutor we will try to match you with a compatible partner as soon as possible. If you are a registering as a student, we will pair you with someone who is currently/or has taken the class an maintained above a 90% in that class. We will email the student with the tutor’s contact information. The tutor will also reach out to the student to set up a time and place for the first session. After that, it is up to the tutor/student to determine whether or not they would like to continue their tutoring sessions. Tutoring is free, but tutors will receive volunteer hours.
Students tutor each other! We believe in the power of peer tutoring. Students taking the same class as their peers will have the knowledge fresh in their head and will also understand the struggles their peers have with the content. At the moment, anyone in District 204 in the grades 6-12 can be a student and all incoming and current highschoolers attending Neuqua Valley can be a tutor if they fulfill the grade requirements. Also, being a tutor does not mean that you also cannot be a student. We all have our strengths and weaknesses!
Due to COVID-19, only online tutoring via Zoom, Facetime, or etc. will be available.
Tutoring sessions are usually around 45 minutes long, once every week. However, this is not a strict rule, and sessions can be anywhere from 30-60 minutes long, once, twice, or however many times a month. When that is, whether before/after school or on the weekends, is entirely up to you and your tutor.
After we have paired you with a student/tutor, the student will receive an email notifying them of their tutor and the tutor will contact the student shortly to arrange a time to begin tutoring.
We respect that our tutors and students’ time is both precious and valuable. We expect that tutor/student pairs will notify each other of a time conflict at least 24 hours before their scheduled session. From their, pairs may reschedule their session or wait until the next session. If a tutor/student wishes to stop tutoring, they should notify both their partner and the organization.
As a registered not-for-profit organization, you can earn volunteer hours as a tutor. After each tutoring session, both the tutor and the student will fill out a google form on our website with details about their tutoring session. We will keep track of these responses for you. Hours will be totaled at the end of each semester or whenever requested.
Due to COVID-19, there is both a great need for help in our community and a great danger in volunteering in-person. Online tutoring is one of the best ways you can contribute to your community, and that’s why you will receive volunteer hours for your tutoring. Teaching someone and watching them finally understand concepts can be fulfilling and rewarding. Not only will you meet new people and make new friends, you will feel like a part of something bigger, a part of the community.
Any incoming or current highschooler attending D204, is eligible to become a tutor as long as they have or have obtained above a 90% in the classes they wish to tutor.
We will try our best to pair each tutor with at least one compatible student before considering assigning multiple students. From there, it will be based on compatibility and if other tutors would also like multiple students.
Since our tutors are volunteers, tutoring is completely free. Although our tutors are working free of charge, we expect that students treat their tutors with respect and show up to their sessions in a timely manner.
As a tutor, you are eligible to tutor all classes/subjects in which you currently have or have obtained above a 90% grade. As for students, most classes are covered by our tutors. If you have a special request, don’t be afraid to ask via our contact/feedback forms.
Everyone has different schedules and it can be difficult to coordinate a common time and place to meet. When you sign up as a tutor/signup, you will be paired with someone taking the same class as you who has the same time & location availability. If things do not work well after the first session, you can always request a change.
